Session 1 – Kickoff

Key properties and definition of computational reproducibility

Wednesday 23 September 2026, 15:00 – 17:00

Student-led inputs

Two group inputs on the theory, each 15 min input + 15 min discussion, based on resources below.

Group Input topic Resource
#1 Reproducibility in Epidemiology Book chapter: “Improving Reproducibility in Epidemiology” – 10.1007/978-1-4614-6625-3_73-1
#2 Reproducibility in Biostatistics Case studies in reproducibility – 10.1093/bib/bbq084
#2 Code review Code Review as a Simple Trick to Enhance Reproducibility, Accelerate Learning, and Improve the Quality of Your Team’s Research – 10.1093/aje/kwab092

Peer discussion

What do I undestand under reproducibility? What do I already do to ensure computational reproducibility?

Presentation and discussion of course logistics

  • Introduction of the paper-selection criteria and the pre-selected candidate pool.
  • Homework briefing.
Homework (2 weeks, until 7 Oct)

Each group identifies 2–3 candidate papers that they find interesting from the pool. Read the paper abstract and methods in detail, find the data and code, and locate any other material. Do not yet check code or try to rerun it. In the next session you’ll be asked to present your candidates with the reasons why you chose them. We will decide on the final selection together as a group.
